Mount Vernon, GA- The Thomas University Men's soccer team (6-3-2, 3-2-1 SSAC) traveled to Mount Vernon this afternoon to take on the Brewton-Parker Barons (1-11-0, 0-7-0 SSAC) in a conference matchup.
The Night Hawks would showcase their stellar defense during the first period. Their efforts on defense would hold the Barons to just two shots during the first half. In the 40th minute of the contest, James Hall would match the energy of his defense to produce a goal and give Thomas a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.
In the second period, both defenses would ensure the score remained the same until the 73rd minute, when Santiago Viel would find Ethan Moore who would increase Thomas' lead to 2-0. Shortly after, Alex Ruane would score a goal on a penalty kick opportunity. Thomas wouldn't stop there. With a 3-0 lead, Findlay Cook would add a goal, assisted by Diego Azar, to give the Night Hawks a 4-0 lead. As the contest came to a close, Diego Azar would add a goal of his own just one minute before the end of regulation. Thomas would ultimately shutout the Barons and take a 5-0 victory back to the Rose City.
In total, the Night Hawks would take 17 shots, with 9 on goal, and 6 corner kicks. While the Barons had 6 shots, with 1 on goal, and 7 corner kicks. Thomas' Jorge Gonzalez would record one save.
NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will host Falkner University in a SSAC matchup on Thursday, October 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30PM at the TU Soccer Complex.
