Blue Mountain, MS. | The Night Hawks defeated the Blue Mountain College Lady toppers, 3-2, in SSAC action on Thursday afternoon.
Thomas struck first, on an unassisted goal from
Elsebeth Andersen, at the 22:19 mark, to give the Night Hawks the early lead. Blue Mountain would tie the score at 1-1, just before the half, at the 43:20 mark.
Pearl Mortimer would put the Night Hawks backout in front in the 58', on an assit by
Kaitlyn Herb. Herb would score a goal of her own at the 85:53 mark. The goal would be ultra-important, because at the 86:28 point, the Lady Toppers would answer with a goal of their own. But the Blue Mountain effort was too little, too late, as the Night Hawks were able to hold on for the victory.
With the win, Thomas has assured themselves of hosting the first round of the SSAC tournament. The Night Hawks, currently, sit in fourth place. The match on Saturday, versus Tennessee Southern, will determine which of the two teams finishes third. The winner will gain the #3 seed, while the loser will settle for the #4 seed. William Carey currently has the #1 seed, while LIfe sits at #2. With the right combination of wins and loses by Life, Thomas can finish as high as 2nd in the SSAC standings.
