THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University softball team will make its eighth, straight appearance in the SUN Conference Tournament this weekend with the Night Hawks appearing first in the tournament opening round on Thursday at 11 a.m.
The Night Hawks (27-19, 14-13 SUN) are first scheduled to play Ave Maria in the SUN Tournament with ensuing games to follow.
In the Night Hawk-Gyrenes series this season, Ave Maria (25-23, 15-11 SUN) took the series by sweeping doubleheader day before TU won game three, 5-2.
In the first two game the Gyrene pitching staff limited the high-powered Night Hawk lineup to just eight hits and no runs in the 4-0 and 1-0 victory.
In game three's Night Hawk win, TU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second, before never looking back with a 5-2 win.
Thomas' Larran Carter went 1-1 in the series while Leane Lain went 0-1 in the series, after losing the 1-0 game.
Ave Maria's Morgan Grimm leads the team at the plate, batting .351 on the year. Meanwhile, TU's Adreanna Killingsworth is batting .408 on the year with 38 RBI and five homers in her junior season.
Over the course of the season, both teams earned a positive win percentage at neutral sites, with TU's 10-3 neutral site-record advantageously above AMU's 6-5 neutral record.
This year's SUN Tournament will take place at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida.
