Thomas Wins Series against Warner

Lake Wales, Fla. — The Thomas University softball team split doubleheader day against Warner, but won the series 2-1 after Wednesday's 1-1 record.

Game 1: Warner 3, Thomas 2

In game one, both teams were knotted until the fifth, when the Royals (22-21, 9-12 SUN) scored the opening run on a single-out fielders choice.

Warner then doubled their lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, 2-0, before the Night Hawks tied the contest back up in the seventh, 2-2.

The first run for TU (22-18, 9-12 SUN) was produced by an RBI double from Tiana Villagomez, scoring Holly Campbell, 2-1.

An ensuing sacrifice bunt from DP Kennedy Hardy advanced Chauntivia Cliatt (pinch-running for Villagomez) to third before a Michaela Farr single leveled the contest at two apiece.

The Night Hawks left Farr stranded on first in the next at bat, as Madalyn Morton sent the ballgame to the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout.

Morton's seven innings pitched was almost outdone by TU's Leanne Lain, who pitched 6.2 innings allowing just six hits.

Despite the stellar pitching, the bottom of the seventh proved detrimental for the Night Hawks, as a leadoff walk was driven in by a single, ending the game 3-2.

Game 2: Thomas 5, Warner 0

The Night Hawks found stride in game 3, scoring five runs unanswered in a dominating performance to conclude the series.

TU opened the scoring in the third, as an Averie Sheppard single brought Hunter Williams from second in to score, 1-0.

Thomas then tallied two more runs in the fifth, as both Hunter Williams and Chauntivia Cliatt advanced home for runs two and three of the ballgame. Both Michaela Farr and Holly Campbell picked up the RBI, with a pair of sacrifice flies.

TU solidified the contest in the seventh, as Williams and Makana Pember came in for the finals runs of the game, 5-0.

Holly Cambell led the way for the Night Hawks with three RBI, as senior Hunter Williams went perfect from the batter's box with three hits and three runs.

Senior Larran Carter pitched all seven innings, allowing just five hits with two walks.

The Night Hawks will turn around for another conference series this weekend, hosting the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Friday and Saturday. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. while Saturday first pitch is slate for noon.
