THOMASVILLE, Ga. – After a tough doubleheader the day before, the Thomas University baseball team bounced back in a big way, trouncing Florida National 16-0 in seven innings Saturday afternoon at the Varnedoe Stadium.
The Night Hawks (10-9, 0-6 SUN) came alive at the plate, notching ten hits against the Conquistadors (2-20), while only allowing seven hits. Freshman Right-Hander
Dustin Letchworth (1-1) picked up the win, as Osmani Perez dropped to 0-6 on the season.
Thomas got on the board quickly (literally), as Sophomore
Luis Torres tripled to right center on the second at-bat to score first for TU. Freshman
Matthew Delay Jr. immediately followed up the hit with a sacrifice fly to bring home Torres for a 2-0 lead.
Freshman
Jean Pool Checo delivered as the hitting specialist, batting 2-for-4 on the day that included three RBIs from a double and a two-run homer.
With a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Green & White had its biggest inning of the day, posting seven runs in three hits. After the home run from Checo, TU loaded the bases, setting up two runs scored through walks. Redshirt Senior
Brad Toxen produced the first of his two, biggest hits of the contest, a 3RBI double down the left field line to extend the Night Hawks' insurmountable lead to 12-0.
Thomas would finish the day with four more added runs in the sixth, highlighted by Toxen's 2RBI triple.
