Night Hawks Seek Rebound in Series vs. Gyrenes

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University Softball team is set to take on another SUN Conference opponent, this time in Ave Maria, Fla., as Tu will compete against Ave Maria in its third consecutive SUN Conference series.

The Night Hawks (15-10, 2-4 SUN) lost two of three contests in both of their opening conference series against Webber and #21 Southeastern over the past week.

Most recently, TU won game one of its series against #21 Southeastern on Friday before the Fire offense ignited on Saturday, shutting the Night Hawks out in both games two and three, with commanding 8-0 and 3-0 victories.

Heading into this weekend's conference series against Ave Maria (15-16, 5-4 SUN), the Night Hawks are led in the batter's box by juniors Adreanna Killingsworth and Makana Pember. Inside the pitching circle, Killingsworth and senior Larran Carter have primarily been the starters with a combined record of 14-8.

In the other dugout, the Gyrenes enter the series just under .500, but,  after AMU's three game conference sweep over Florida Memorial last weekend, Ave Maria now holds the fifth seed in the conference standings.

The Gyrenes were fueled by six home runs in the series, with three homers in game three marking the fourth time in school history AMU had hit at least three home runs in a single game. The effort was led by Cecilia Garrett and Elena Dybiec, who both drove in five runs in the game three victory.

The pitching staff for Ave Maria is led by Alissa Bolinger (10-7) and Kassandra Clark (4-3).

The weekend will start with a doubleheader on Friday at noon and 2 p.m., before concluding with the series finale on Saturday at noon.
