Night Hawks Silenced by Fire

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University softball team dropped both contests on Tuesday, failing to register a run, as #21 Southeastern shutout the Night Hawks 8-0 and 3-0 in Tuesdays doubleheader.

Game 1, Southeastern University 8, Thomas University 0

TU (15-10, 2-4 SUN) had a hard time finding hits in day two of the SUN Conference series, registering just three hits throughout both games in route to Southeastern's silencing wins.

After getting three runs across in the top of the first, the Fire (21-5, 5-1 SUN) sat on a 3-0 lead for three innings before tacking an extra pair of runs in the top of the third, 5-0.

The final three were tallied in the fourth, fifth, and seventh, solidifying the contest as the Night Hawks failed to get a hit until the final frame of play.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh Southeastern junior Claire Sekinger had pitched a nearly perfect game with just a lone walk, before her no-hitter performance came to an end when Dara Moore singled to the outfield. Senior Holly Campbell advanced Moore to second with a hit of her own, but it was too little too late as the Fire ran away with the commanding 8-0 victory.

Junior Adreanna Killingsworth fell to 3-4 on the season after conceding four runs in two innings tossed, Claire Sekinger picked up the win for SEU, allowing just two hits and one walk in her seven innings pitched.

With the loss, the Night Hawk-Fire series was evened at 1-1, with game two scheduled to start shortly after.

Game 2, Southeastern University 3, Thomas University 0

Game two moved Thomas' overall record to 15-10 after the Night Hawks fell to the Fire 3-0.

The two teams were knotted 0-0 until the third, before SEU's best batter, Erica Stahl, stepped up to the plate with a single out. The sophomore outfielder then crushed a ball to left field clearing the fence over TU's Averie Sheppard for the first run of the game, 1-0.

The Night Hawks nearly responded in a big way in the bottom of the inning as an error, passed ball and walk, led to TU runners on first and third with Adreanna Killingsworth up to bat.

Killingsworth followed with a hard hit ball in the infield, but the Fire's infield handled the situation perfectly throwing Killingsworth out on first, with Holly Campbell's potential run getting eliminated due to out number three.

Once again in the bottom of the fourth the Night Hawks found themselves in a prime position to score with runners on second and third, but an unfortunate foul out for Kennedy Hardy again helped SEU escape the inning flawless.

Southeastern went on to tally an extra run in both the fifth and the sixth as the Night Hawks were unable to respond with any runs of their own, falling to the Fire 3-0.

The Night Hawks will next travel to Ave Maria, Florida to take on Ave Maria University on Friday and Saturday in another SUN series with a doubleheader on Friday and series finale on Saturday.
