THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Women's basketball team will host a single home game this Thursday, when the Royals from Warner University pay the Rose City a visit to complete the season series between Warner and Thomas.
The Royals (8-13, 3-10 SUN) enter the weekday contest two games outside the playoff picture, needing to win out in order to have a chance in claiming the sixth and final playoff spot. After starting conference play 3-6, the Royals have now dropped four straight to find themselves on the outside looking in come post season play.
The Night Hawks, on the other hand, had two tough opponents last week, as the Miami Gardens' teams found success in the TU Gymnasium leaving with two wins. First, the Bobcats from St. Thomas won the weekday matchup 74-63 before the Lions from FMU routed the Night Hawks 101-71.
Nearing the end of the season, upperclassmen Destiny Reed and Ta'nija Watson lead the team in points, assists, and rebounds per game, while Juniors Amayla Sharif and Xènia Cavallé have played quality minutes supporting the team from both inside and outside the arc. Cavallé leads the team with 29 made three-pointers.
The last time the two teams met, Warner edged the Night Hawks 68-65, as TU played catchup the entire contest after going down ten in the first quarter.
Despite Warner entering the contest with two straight wins over the Night Hawks, TU still holds the historical advantage 12-6.
Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Fans unable to attend can follow along with the game with the links below.
