WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Thomas University baseball team gave every ounce of energy they had left in its series against #8 Keiser, but in the end, he Night Hawks suffered heartbreak once more as a walk-off run in extra innings sealed a 7-6 win for the Seahawks and the series sweep Saturday afternoon at Silvester Field.
TU (7-5, 0-3 SUN) tallied eight hits on the day, along with six RBIs and the contest's only stolen base. Freshman Right-Hander
Zachary Buelk (1-1) was charged with the loss after coming in the tenth inning to allow one earned run in two hits in just seven pitches.
Sophomore Right-Hander
Bradley Peacock got the start for Game Three, as the native of Jennings, Fla. allowed five earned runs in four hits with one strikeout in three and one-third innings pitched.
Thomas had a good start to the contest with a leadoff hit from Sophomore
Turner Maddox, immediately picking up a stolen base to get to scoring position on Freshman
Khadin Bastian's at-bat before TU was ousted by Keiser with three, straight outs. It would not take long for the Seahawks to strike first, as a leadoff double from Nate Brodsky and a two-run homer from Cyrus Grimes gave KU a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
The Green & White responded in kind in the top of the second, as a leadoff walk followed by a two-run homer from Redshirt Senior
Brad Toxen tied the contest 2-2. After consecutive outs on the next two at-bats, TU was back to the top of its lineup, as walks from Maddox and Bastian led to a 2RBI single by Freshman
Matthew Delay Jr. gave the Night Hawks its first lead (4-2).
Keiser took advantage of a walk-filled fourth inning, leading to three more runs scored for the Seahawks to retake a 5-4 lead. KU would extend its lead to two runs with a Tim Bouchard RBI triple down the right line.
In the top of the eighth, Redshirt Junior
Bradley Fleenor set the tone for the inning with a leadoff hit. Toxen followed the hit with a fielder's choice kept a runner on first before the Bethlehem, Ga. native made up for it by advancing to scoring position off a rare Seahawk wild pitch. Following a flyout on Redshirt Freshman
Cameron Rosario's hit, Sophomore
Luis Torres smacked a RBI double to right center that sent Toxen home to bring the score 6-5. After Freshman
Michael Sowers was walked on the next at-bat, Maddox followed up with a game-tying RBI single.
Neither team could find a run in the ninth inning, leading to extra inning play. With one out and a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the tenth, TU took a gamble by intentionally walking Bouchard. The decision backfired on the next at-bat, as Mason Dinesen delivered a single to load the bases, setting up Anthony Catalano for the game-winning RBI and securing the 7-6 win in ten innings.
