Softball Hits the Road for Grizzly Open

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University Softball team is scheduled to start its 2022 season this weekend with a trip to compete in the annual Grizzly Open.

The weekend schedule will provide tough competition, as TU plays one of the most challenging schedules in the country with its first five games being against teams either nationally ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA preseason poll. The University of the Cumberlands, Georgia Gwinnett, and Reinhardt University are all opponents in the Grizzly Open that are receiving preseason recognition.

Recently, the SUN Conference released preseason polls that showed the Night Hawks projected 7th in the leagues overall standings. Also, the conference chose Senior Corryne Diaz to be TU's player to watch. After a successful 2021 season, Diaz, the left-handed batter, finished as the Night Hawks leader in slug percentage, doubles, and hits, while also tying the team's leader in hrs. The Senior infielder will resume third baseman duty, as the Gardnerville, Nevada native provided defensive excellence with a .944 fielding percentage, leading the team.
