Abubakar Posts Double-Double in TU Victory

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Thomas University senior Mohammed Abubakar posted his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Night Hawks' 87-75 win over Brewton-Parker College Thursday night at Gillis Gymnasium.

Abubakar was 5-of-10 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line, and grabbed 4 offensive and 10 defensive rebounds for TU. His first double-double of the season was his 23-point, 13-rebound game against Florida Memorial University on Dec. 1.

Tim Williamson added 15 points and eight rebounds while Jordan Booker recorded 11 points, four assists and four steals for the Night Hawks.

Brewton-Parker tied the game at six two-and-a-half minutes into the first half, then a trey by Shakari Williams, a jumper from Williamson, a layup by Jarvis Brown and a dunk from Williamson over the next two minutes, put Thomas up, 15-6. BPC battled back to within one point with two minutes left in the first half, but a pair of threes and a jumper from Brown helped TU to a 40-31 halftime lead.

BPC chipped away at TU's 9-point lead early in the second period, drawing the score within three with 17:39 to play, but the Night Hawks again led by nine two minutes later. Over the next 10 minutes, Brewton-Parker tied the game multiple times, but never took the lead. After being tied at 61 with 8:31 to play, Thomas went on a 16-3 run to put the game out of reach and ultimately win, 87-75.

With the victory, Thomas improves to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the Sun Conference.

The Night Hawks are riding an 8-game winning streak heading into Monday's conference matchup against Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Fla.
