Thomas Edges FMU in Sun Conference Action

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team edged Florida Memorial University, 79-74, Thursday night to remain unbeaten in Sun Conference action.
 
Tim Williamson and Mohammed Abubakar each notched 23 points in Thomas' seventh win of the season. Abubakar also grabbed 13 rebounds to post his first double-double of the year, while Williamson was just one board short of his second double-double this season. Jordan Booker recorded a team high four assists and Corey Fulton and Williamson each swiped three steals.
 
Florida Memorial took a five-point lead halfway through the first half, then momentum shifted, allowing TU to go ahead by seven after a 3-pointer by Jarvis Brown with three minutes left in the stanza. After a made free throw by Brown, a pair of field goals and a trey from FMU found Thomas only up by one at the half.
 
TU came out of the locker room hot, again extending its lead to seven less than three minutes into the second half. FMU hit a free throw with 14 minutes remaining the game to take the one-point lead, but Thomas finished a layup at 13:33 to regain the edge. FMU battled back with two minutes remaining the in the game, hitting a jumper to go ahead 74-72. Booker tied the game at 74 with a pair of free throws, then gave Thomas the 76-74 lead with one minute left, hitting two more from the charity stripe. A layup by Williams, then a free throw from Abubakar with two seconds left sealed the game for TU.  
 
Thomas outrebounded FMU 47-33 as the Night Hawks improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the league.
 
The Night Hawks return to the hardwood Saturday to face St. Thomas University at 4 p.m. in the TU Gymnasium.
