TU Takes Down RV St. Thomas, 84-69

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team defeated St. Thomas University, 84-69, Saturday afternoon at the TU Gymnasium, extending the Night Hawks' winning streak to seven games.
 
The Night Hawks improve to 8-2 on the season and 4-0 in the Sun Conference while the Bobcats, who are receiving votes in the national poll, falls to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in the league.
 
The Night Hawks jumped out to an early lead, taking a 9-point edge just three minutes into play, then extended the margin to 12 just three minutes later. St. Thomas drew the game within three points, 34-31 at the three minute mark of the first half and trailed by six at the break.
 
STU kept the game close for the first five minutes of the second stanza, but Thomas held an advantage of at least eight points for the final 15 minutes of the game to earn its fourth league victory.
 
Thomas hit 49.2 percent (29-59) from the field, and went 10-of-12 (87.0%) at the line in the game. TU played a strong game down low, scoring 36 points in the paint, including 22 in the second half.
 
TU was led in scoring by Mohammed Abubakar with 23 points and six rebounds. Tim Williamson posted his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, hitting 9-of-10 shots at the charity stripe. This was his second game this season with 10 boards, and sixth game of the year with seven-or-more rebounds.
 
Jordan Booker recorded team highs with five steals and five assists and had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Jarvis Brown added to the offensive attack with 16 points and Corey Fulton had a big game with eight boards and seven points for TU.
 
Thomas is back in action tomorrow afternoon in Melbourne, Fla., facing Florida Tech at 2 p.m.
