Night Hawks Up Against the Odds

THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Women's basketball team will be on the road again this weekend, traveling first to compete against #2 Southeastern on Thursday before heading to Ave Maria, Fla. to play the Gyrenex on Saturday.

TU vs. Southeastern

The Night Hawks will have a tall task on Thursday, as TU will compete against the number two team in the nation who has yet to drop a conference contest at 9-0 and now sit at an impressive 20-1 for the 2021-22 campaign.

To make matters worse, the Night Hawks now sit at 1-14 (1-8 SUN) and are currently sitting on a 12 game skid. Offensively the team has been in a slump, averaging 53.9 points per game with a field goal percentage of 37%.

Earlier this season, the Night Hawks hosted the Fire, as the team from Lakeland, Florida convincingly handled the contest 124-41.

Tipoff in the Furnace on Thursday and is set for 5:00 p.m.

TU vs. Ave Maria

On Saturday, the Night Hawks will have another opportunity to find a win in SUN Conference play, as the Gyrenes are on a current three game losing streak, all in conference competition.

Despite the recent dip in play, Ave Maria still holds a .500 record sitting at 9-9 overall, but only 3-6 in SUN play.

Last fall, the Night Hawks and Gyrenes played in the TU Gymnasium, with AMU narrowly winning the contest 68-63. The Night Hawk offense was led by Junior Amayla Sharif and Graduate student Destiny Reed who combined to score 48 of the teams 63 points in the contest. Eventually the Night Hawks ran out of gas, as AMU had an offensive explosion in the fourth outscoring TU 14-2 over the first five minutes of the final period.

Tipoff in Donahue Gym is set for 2 p.m. Fans can follow along with this contest by accessing the links below.
