Last Minute Goal Gives TU the Win

THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Men's soccer program narrowly defeated Florida National University 1-0 Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore forward Hudson Cougill scored the game-winning goal.

In the match, Thomas was outshot 19 to seven as Freshman goalkeeper Stephen Douglas held the Conquistadors scoreless tallying eight saves.

In the first half, Douglas registered his first save of the contest in the 43rd minute when the Englishman made a miraculous save after guessing the right direction on a Conquistador penalty kick.

The second half brought more Florida National offense, as the visiting Conquistadors registered 13 more shots towards frame. Thomas registered seven shots total, as the Night Hawks struggled to create chances, ending the contest with two of shots on frame.

Despite the chances, FNU could not capitalize on the opportunities, as shot after shot sailed high for the visitors. In the end, FNU registered eight shots on frame.

The lone goal of the contest came with less than a minute remaining in the game, as Sophomore defender Giacomo Bacigalupo served a free kick into the box that connected with forward Hudson Cougill

Cougill's header beat FNU goalkeeper Victor Lasso as Thomas' unbeaten streak against Florida National extended to three games.

Up next, Thomas travels to Ave Maria this weekend for the SUN Conference's Game of the Week against the Gyrenes.

Kickoff on Saturday is set for 11 AM.
