Second Half Goals Lift #10 GGC Over TU

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's soccer team gave #10 Georgia Gwinnett quite the run in the first half of the A.I.I. Semifinal, but too many opportunities by the Grizzlies in the second half led to two more goals that ultimately became the Night Hawks' downfall in a 3-1 loss to GGC Saturday afternoon.

Thomas (3-5-2) was outshot 20-8 by GGC, with only two shots on goal.  Sophomore Goalkeeper Josh Ricord's first game against the Grizzlies was a productive one, posting a .750 Save Percentage while registering a season-high nine saves.

The match did not remain scoreless for too long, as Georgia Gwinnett found the contest's first goal in the 13th minute.

Thomas did not see its first shot come to fruition until the 33rd minute, as a chance from Freshman Hudson Cougill was blocked, setting up the Night Hawks' lone corner kick of the game.  The Hunter Green & White maximized its efforts from the corner by Junior Joao Pedro Vinha, as Senior Salvador Marin slotted in a second chance shot for the equalizer (1-1).

In the second half, Georgia Gwinnett virtually gave TU no scoring chances, outshooting the Night Hawks 12-1.  The Grizzlies retook the lead in the 58th minute from a shot near a defender off a right corner.

GGC extended its lead 3-1 in the 75th minute, capitalizing from a long ball that set up a one-on-one against Ricord.

The Hunter Green & White's Spring 2021 season concludes, as the team looks forward to rejoining The Sun Conference fixture this Fall.
