Lady Night Hawks Set to Face TSC Favorites and Trinity Baptist

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University softball is back on the road Wednesday, venturing out to Lake Wales, Fla. Wednesday to face The Sun Conference preseason favorite Warner University in doubleheader play before hosting Trinity Baptist College Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader.

The Lady Night Hawks (14-12, 5-7 TSC) have had yet another week to rest and prepare, this time for the #18 team in the nation in Warner (20-8, 4-2 TSC).  While scoring chances were limited last week, Senior Holly Campbell managed to hit 3-for-5 at the plate, recording an RBI with two stolen bases, while Freshman Jada Bolar batted .500 in the doubleheader with one RBI.

Junior Larran Carter (4-2) may not have started, but the Thomasville, Ga. saw plenty of time in the circle, pitching a total of six and two-third innings, allowing two earned runs in three hits with 10 strikeouts.  Additionally, Carter picked up her second save in a 5-4 win over USCB.

Overall, TU's primary pitching trio (Carter, Senior Rebecca Boesen and Junior Sheala Brown) continue to lead the conference in team ERA (2.16), while each individual is in the Top Four in Strikeouts average and Top 10 in Earned Runs Allowed on the season.

The Royals will be coming off a doubleheader against Webber International the day before, in a battle between two, strong TSC opponents.  The Lady Night Hawks' stellar pitching unit will face another challenge Wednesday, as WU enters the week 18th in NAIA in Runs Scored a Game (6.464) and 25th in the nation in RBI average (5.893).  Warner as a whole boasts a batting average of .332 (second-best in The Sun Conference), nearly recording nine hits a game.

Part of the Royals' hitting success comes from Breyonna Shell, the conference's batting average leader (.446).  To say Shell is effective at the plate is an understatement, averaging 1.357 RBIs (ranked 11th in NAIA) and 1.464 hits a game.

Fans will enjoy another marquee matchup in the pitcher's circle, as three of the conference's top four pitchers with the best ERAs will showcase its talent.  TSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Tiffany Dodson (16-5) heads into the week with a 1.51 ERA, allowing 6.27 hits and averaging 3.86 strikeouts a game.

The Hunter Green & White will be looking to claim its first win at Daly Field since 2014, as the team trails in the overall series against WU 29-22.

Meanwhile, Trinity Baptist (3-18) will warm up with a doubleheader Friday against Florida National before making the three-hour drive west to Thomasville Saturday.  The batting unit is led by Mackenzie Frye, entering the weekend with a .394 batting average and 10 RBIs, recording both of the Eagles' home runs this season.

Lana Fletcher (2-7) and Lena Springer (0-6) carry the pitching the workload for the Eagles.  Fletcher holds a 5.15 ERA, allowing 38 earned runs in 85 hits with 20 strikeouts, as Springer has given up 34 earned runs in 63 hits with 22 strikeouts, posting a 5.90 ERA.

Thomas defeated TBC earlier in the season 11-1 in six innings at the Trinity Baptist College Invitational.

Wednesday's first pitch at Daly Field is set for 4 p.m., while Saturday's first pitch at Armory Field is slated for 1 p.m. Fans can access live coverage for each doubleheader by clicking on the links below:
