Lady Night Hawks Claw Mighty Oaks

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – For the first time since 2011, the Thomas University Softball team won both games in a doubleheader by double digits, claiming 16-1 and 10-0 victories over the Oakland City Mighty Oaks Wednesday afternoon at Armory Field.

Game One Recap (TU 16, OCU 1 in 5 inn.)
The Hunter Green & White (9-5) had a bit of a slow start, as Oakland City made an immediate impact with a Hannah Gantner triple followed by an RBI double from Samantha Johnson to give the Mighty Oaks a quick 1-0 lead in the first two at-bats.

The Lady Night Hawks responded in the bottom of the first, as Senior Holly Campbell took advantage of an OCU error, reaching third base to set up a string of RBIs that led to four runs for Thomas.

TU would extend its lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the second, as Freshman Lakin Minish's leadoff hit, coupled with a pair of stolen bases, set up back-to-back RBIs from Campbell and Freshman Makana Pember

A quick pitching change from the Mighty Oaks following Campbell and Pember's RBIs did not stop Thomas from adding on more runs, as Sophomore Addyson Mauldin and Freshman Kennedy Hardy each recorded an RBI to help the Hunter Green & White extend its lead to seven runs (8-1).

The Lady Night Hawks' lineup may have changed in the third inning, but the scoring spree did not, as Thomas added five more runs to push its lead 13-1, highlighted by a 2RBI single from Sophomore Tianna Villagomez.

After allowing a total of five hits, one earned run and three strikeouts in three innings pitched, Junior Rebecca Boesen (6-1) switched to second base in the bottom of the fourth inning, as the Bradenton, Fla. native provided three assists in the outfield.  Junior Larran Carter stepped in at the pitcher's circle, allowing one hit

TU did not skip a beat in the bottom of the fourth, as three straight leadoff singles paved the way for a 2RBI double from Freshman Jada Bolar to give Thomas a 15-1 advantage.  Villagomez's third RBI of the game would give the Lady Night Hawks the team's final run of the contest.

Bolar would finish in the circle for the Lady Night Hawks, as the Californian native allowed one hit in the fifth to preserve a 16-1 win in five innings.

Game Two Recap (TU 10, OCU 0 in 5 inn.)
The Lady Night Hawks' efforts earned the team a third shutout in the 2021 campaign.  Junior Shaela Brown (1-1) allowed just two hits while recording four strikeouts in three innings at the circle.  Carter would take over for the final two innings to allow no hits with three strikeouts.

The bats continued to fly for the Lady Night Hawks in the second inning, as a leadoff double from Freshman Adreanna Killingsworth set up a 2HR by Hardy, the first homer of her NAIA career.

Killingsworth would have a chance to hit her own first NAIA home run just two innings later, which was also a two-run homer, right after Mauldin fired up the TU dugout with a 3RBI triple.

In the fifth inning, Campbell would deliver the final blow to the Mighty Oaks, hitting a line drive to right field for an in-the-park 3HR to clinch a 10-0 win in five innings to sweep Oakland City.
