THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's soccer team once again played a home match in rainy conditions, but the rain could not help stop the Grizzlies as the Night Hawks fell 3-0 to Georgia Gwinnett Thursday afternoon at TU Soccer Complex.
TU (0-2) finished the day with seven total shots with three shots on goal. Junior
Diego Azar had two dangerous chances in the match that nearly capitalized for goals. Junior
Joao Pedro Vinha recorded two shots, while
Alex Pugh tallied a shot on goal and
Mateo Arbelaez registering one shot.
Freshman Goalkeeper
Miha Kristovic finished the match with a .700 Save Percentage.
The first half did not see many chances for either side, as both Thomas and Georgia Gwinnett registered three shots apiece.
The Grizzlies broke the deadlock contest in the 69th and 72nd minutes to take a quick 2-0 lead. Both scoring plays were initially set up by corners from GGC's Alfredo Rivera. The Grizzlies would add one more goal in the 90th minute to come away with a season-opening win.
The Night Hawks will look to rebound Saturday as the team faces the Roadrunners of Dalton State. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
