COCHRAN, Ga. – The Thomas University Softball team had a good start to the 2021 season, as the Lady Night Hawks took the first game 2-1 before falling 3-0 to the Knights of Middle Georgia State Tuesday at Knights Field.

Game One Recap
TU (1-1) was caught in a defensive battle in Game One, as neither team gave up a run until the fourth inning.  The Lady Night Hawks tallied four hits and recorded just one error.  Junior Pitcher Rebecca Boesen (1-0) allowed five hits on the day while recording seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Top of 4th (TU 1, MGA 0)
  • After a sacrifice bunt from Freshman Jaelynn Vialpando advanced the runners, Junior Corryne Diaz's sacrifice fly drove in Sheppard for the game's first run

Bot. of 4th (TU 1, MGA 0)
  • After MGA's Carmen Phillips singled to short, Logan Blizzard hit a sacrifice bunt gone wrong, as TU managed to tag Phillips out for a double play

Bot. of 6th (TU 1, MGA 1)
  • Middle Georgia's Caroline Newton got on base via Thomas infield error (dropping a pop-up fly)

  • The error came back to bite the Hunter Green & White, as a stolen base and a RBI double from Logan Blizzard brought home Caroline Newton to tie the game 1-1

Top of 7th (TU 2, MGA 1)
  • Williams would cash in for the Lady Night Hawks, capitalizing on a stolen base followed by a wild-throw from the Knights off a single from Freshman Kennedy Hardy, scoring TU's game-winning run

Game Two Recap
The momentum of Game Two was also at bay until the sixth inning, but this time, the Lady Night Hawks did not find themselves on the winning end.  TU came away with four hits and two stolen bases.  Junior Pitcher Larran Carter (0-1) gave up three earned runs off six hits and picked up seven strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Bot. of 1st (MGA 1, TU 0)
  • The Knights' Carmen Phillips got on base via walk.  After successfully stealing second, Phillips' speed paid off for Middle Georgia, as a RBI single from Nadia Sloan allowed Phillips to round third and score for a Knights' 1-0 lead

Top of 5th (MGA 1, TU 0)
  • Thomas left the bases loaded, as two strikeouts and a fielder's choice denied the Lady Night Hawks from tying the game

Bot. of 6th (MGA 3, TU 0)
  • Carmen Phillips would once again be the key to the Knights' scoring, as the Freshman's good stolen base would set up a RBI double from Logan Blizzard to extending MGA's lead (2-0)

  • The Knights added to their lead on the next at-bat, as Nadia Sloan picked up her second RBI in the contest with a double to bring home Blizzard
