Night Hawks Downed By Bobcats

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Despite picking up 16 steals in the contest, the Night Hawks' defense was unable to thwart the sweet shooting of St. Thomas, as the Night Hawks fell to STU 42-68.

To start the game, the Night Hawks (1-8, 1-4 SUN) effectively defended the Bobcats taking an initial 4-0 lead before allowing an August Samaria three-pointer to close the gap. After that, the Bobcats (7-3, 3-2 SUN) went on a 10-point run before TU's Amayla Sharif tallied a layup with 5:06 remaining in the first quarter. Sharif's two ended up being the final points of the first, as the Bobcats ended the quarter once more with ten unanswered points.

The offensive showcase continued in the second quarter, as the Bobcats extended their lead throughout, going to halftime with a 38-14 lead.

The third and fourth quarters were a much better for TU, as the Night Hawks narrowly lost the final twenty minutes of action 29-28.

To close the game, the Night Hawks won the final ten minutes of action 16-9, with Amya Bullard scoring all four of her points in the final seven minutes of play.

Graduate student Destiny Reed led the Night Hawks attack for the second straight contest, as the forward was the only player for TU to reach the double-digit mark. Junior guard Amayla Sharif contributed a stellar defensive performance picking up six steals, as the Night Hawks forced a season-high 23 turnovers. Additionally, Sharif scored six points and grabbed seven boards in a solid all-around performance off the bench.

The Night Hawks shot 32% from the field, and just over 12% from deep, as the shooting woes continued in Miami Gardens. Impressive play on both sides of the ball led the Bobcats to a 68-42 routing of the Night Hawks, as two of Bobcats players registed the double-digit mark. Guard Mya Moye scored 12 points of the bench to lead all scorers in the contest.

Up next, TU will host Faulkner University on Saturday, December 11th as the Night Hawks wrap up home contest for the 2021 calendar year.

Tipoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
