THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team officially announced its full schedule Wednesday afternoon for the upcoming 2022 season that will feature a 50-game slate, including 27 contests that will take place at Varnedoe Stadium.
This season's 50-game schedule comprises of 16 opponents, of which seven are nationally ranked. Thomas will only have one, first-time opponent, as the Night Hawks will face NCAA Division III foe Asbury University from Kentucky.
The Green & White will welcome back two opponents to Varnedoe Stadium after a season hiatus from both teams in 2021. RV Indiana Tech returns to the Rose City for a three-game series against the Night Hawks while Edward Waters College will have a home-and-home single-header series.
Thomas will also look forward to returning to Auburndale, Fla. for the annual RussMatt Invitational in early March, as opponents and its full schedule will be announced at a later time.
TU will open the 2022 season with a three-game, non-conference series against rebuilding Talladega College February 4th and 5th, followed by the first game of a single game, home-and-home series against Brewton-Parker on the 8th.
The next three series will take place away from home, as Thomas will head to Hoover, Ala. first to face Asbury College (Ky.) on neutral field for a three-game series. TU will follow up with its first trip to Jacksonville, Fla. to face Trinity Baptist College for a twin bill before finishing with its SUN Conference opener against #8 Keiser.
Following the Seahawks, Thomas will spend the last weekend of February hosting #17 St. Thomas for its conference home opener.
The Night Hawks will be home for nearly every game in March, only travelling three times. TU's first away trip of the month will be back to Jacksonville March 1st for a single game against Edward Waters College. Later that weekend, Florida National returns to Thomasville for a three-game series. The next week following the series against the Conquistadors will be a productive one, as Thomas is off to the RussMatt Invitational before returning home to host RV Indiana Tech.
After the Warriors, the next week (week of March 15th) will don Red, Black, & White, as the Night Hawks will drive east across US-84 for a single, exhibition contest against NCAA DII Valdosta State in the early part of the week before hosting #3 Southeastern that weekend for its third SUN Conference series. On March 22nd, the Green & White will complete its home-and-home series with Trinity Baptist in doubleheader fashion before traveling to #19 Middle Georgia State for a three-game, non-conference series to finish out the month.
For the first time as SUN Conference members, TU will see the bulk of its SUN schedule in April, as the Night Hawks begin the month heading down to Miami Gardens for its conference series against Florida Memorial. Thomas will follow the series with a trip to Brewton-Parker to complete its series in singleheader fashion before coming home to face the Gyrenes of Ave Maria.
Edward Waters will make a pit stop April 12th at Varnedoe before the Night Hawks head off to Bluffton, S.C. later in the week to take on USC-Beaufort. Following the Sand Sharks, TU will host RV Warner the weekend of April 22nd and 23rd before concluding its home slate with one game against Middle Georgia State on April 26th.
The Night Hawks wrap up the 2022 season with its final SUN Conference series in Babson Park, Fla. against RV Webber International.
This season's SUN Conference tournament will once again be held at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Fla. May 5-8. Following the tournament, the NAIA will have its Opening Rounds of the National tournament May 16-19 before holding its 65th annual World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
