Thomas Tops Warriors in Season Finale

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – In a Fall 2021 season that did not produce the ideal result for the Thomas University Women's soccer team, the Night Hawks made its annual Senior Day one to remember, defeating the Webber International Warriors in a 4-1 blowout win Saturday afternoon at TU Soccer Complex.

Thomas (8-9, 3-6 SUN) saved its best for last, recording 23 shots against the Warriors (10-5-1, 4-5 SUN).  The Night Hawks landed a .565 Shots on Goal Percentage, with Sophomore Janae Scott leading the team with seven shots.

In her final game of her NAIA career, Senior Jordin Sanchez made her first start of the season, recording five saves while facing 13 shots.

The Night Hawks played with extra motivation, as the Green & White took nearly four minutes to score the contest's first goal, a top shelf shot from Junior Jana Pastorek 30 yards out that squeezed between the crossbar and the outstretched arm of WIU keeper Natalie Bartek for a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Warriors' Brazil Clark worked against the TU defense, dribbling the ball down the left side of the field before setting a cross to sister Versailles Clark for the equalizing goal.

With the contest tied at one apiece in the 17th minute, Scott was on a breakaway when a WIU defender tripped up the Florida Southern in the keeper's box to set up a Penalty Kick attempt.  The initial shot was blocked by Bartek, but the rebound came directly to Scott for a second shot attempt that turned into another save for Webber International.

TU would eventually would break the tie in the 30th minute, as Junior Analeice Wilkes delivered a cross to Senior Matti Campbell, who delivered a brilliant header that would ultimately become the game-winning goal for the Night Hawks.  The Spring Hill, Fla. native would find another score in the second half, as Campbell was in the right place at the right time to slot the rebounded shot off Bartek from Pastorek to extend TU's lead to two goals.

In the waning moments of the match, Sophomore Kayley Smith delivered a clearance that took a TU bounce and led Scott for another breakaway chance before another WIU foul in their own box led to the Green & White's second penalty kick of the day.  The final score of the season was made by Graduate Taylor Hults, who converted on the PK to preserve the Night Hawks' 4-1 win.

The Fall 2021 class of seniors, in particular, were a special group this season, and TU wanted to make sure their careers finished on a high note.  "We weighed through a lot of adversity this year," said Head Coach Julie Orlowski.  "We had some bad luck this year, and to say 'Hey you know what? We're going to do it for these five people'; let's come home and get two victories and send them out the right way.  If you want to know what they mean to our program, all you have to do is see the heart that they played with these last two games, because it was all about doing it for them; I'm proud of every one of them."
