Box Score THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's basketball team battled against Truett McConnell University Thursday afternoon, before eventually falling to the Bears 64-78.
First quarter action saw TU jump out to an early 4-0 lead before a mid-quarter push gave the lead back to the Bears who led 16-14 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, Truett McConnell took advantage of turnovers, as the Bears went on an eleven point run that proved to be too much as Thomas fell into a double-digit deficit. At the halftime break, TU trailed 36-25.
In the second half, the Bears' lead remained, as TU struggled to narrow the gap to anything below eleven in the fourth quarter. Down the stretch, Sophomore Nayeli Williams drained three straight jumpers from behind the arc, but in the paint, the Night Hawks were pounded, as Truett McConnell scored 34 in the paint, compared to the 22 from TU.
Overall, Thomas shot an impressive 50% from the field, knocking down 42.9% (8-19) from behind the perimeter. The Night Hawks shot poorly from the line, shooting 4-9, but the glaring struggle of the contest was taking care of the ball, as eleven turnovers provided the Bears 17 points.
Thomas University forward Destiny Reed led the team scoring a team-high 18 points to go along with five boards. Senior Dyani Sheppard also added 15 points, while sophomore Nayeli Williams made the most of her minutes, scoring 12 points in her limited eleven minutes.
Up next, the Night Hawks take a trip seaside, as the team visits Daytona Beach to play NCAA DII opponent Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Sunday for a Halloween matchup.
