Visiting Bears Open Night Hawk Season

THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Women's basketball team is scheduled to host its season and home-opener against Truett McConnell University Thursday, October 28 at 5:30 p.m.

The much anticipated wait is over, as the new-look Night Hawks will debut a strengthened squad that features seven offseason additions. The Women's Basketball staff searched nationally for talent, with five transfers coming from four different states.

The Night Hawks will need one of the new-comers, Freshman or transfer, to fill the scoring load, as the team's leading scorer from a year ago, Alexis Powell, graduated in May of 2021. The Nights Hawks will also look to rebound from a underwhelming year, where the team trailed the SUN Conference in both offensive scoring and defensive efficiency, missing the conference tournament.

Both new and familiar faces will look to provide the necessary changes to help the Night Hawks improve on the court.

Head Coach Myron Brown enters his fifth year leading the program, while Assistant Coach Raynard Fuller joins his side for the 2021-22 season. Fuller comes to Thomas after a three-year stint at Central Georgia Technical College as an assistant.

Truett McConnell comes to the Rose City after off a successful season a year ago, which saw the team make an appearance in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament after impressively winning the AAC play-in game against Columbia College. After that, the Bears fell to the eventual AAC Champion Bryan College.

Though Thomas holds the historical advantage against the Bears, Truett will return its leading scorer from a year ago, as Re'Tavia Floyd enters her Senior season after averaging 18 points per game in the 2020-21 season.

Tipoff at the TU Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m. Fans can access live coverage by accessing the links below:
