MIAMI GARDDNS, Fla. – It was only a matter of time before the Thomas University Men's basketball team would see its hard work pay off from Winter Break training sessions, defeating Florida Memorial 78-70 Thursday night at the Wellness Center.
Thomas (3-9, 3-3 TSC) was fairly balanced in converted shots from the field (41.4%) and from outside the arc (45%), but points from the charity stripe gave the Night Hawks the edge over FMU (3-7, 3-4 TSC), going 21-for 31 (67.7%). Junior Guard
Toriano Lewis picked up right where he left off in December, tallying 17 points on the night, converting 71.4% from long range. Junior Guard
Jordan Booker continued to be a force for TU, recording 15 points, nine assists seven boards. Booker also tallied a game-high nine steals, already adding to his insurmountable Total Steals lead (57).
1st Half (TU 37, FMU 31)
- - It was virtually all Night Hawks for the first nine minutes, jumping out to a 22-6 lead
- - As a team, Thomas forced nine turnovers and seven steals
- - FMU's score did not reach double digits until the 8:23 mark
- - Trint Bryant notched 10 points
- - The Hunter Green & White limited the Lions' field percentage to under 35%
- - TU's largest lead of the half was 29-12
2nd Half (TU 78, FMU 70)
- - At the 14:09 mark, TU went on a 1:45 scoring run (9-0)
- - Thomas saw its second scoring run (11-3) of the half begin with 11:02 remaining, extending just over five minutes
- - The Night Hawks' matched its largest lead from the first half with six minutes left (70-53)
- - Six more steals were added to TU's total
- - The Hunter Green & White forced 11 turnovers
