Unlucky: CCGA Avoids a Second-Half Collapse

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's basketball could not overcome a double-digit halftime deficit, as the Night Hawks fell to Coastal Georgia 66-60 at TU Gymnasium Thursday night.

The Night Hawks (3-10, 3-4 TSC) showed shades of November, seeing a deficit as large as 14 and almost managing to pull off a come-from-behind would-be win.  CCGA (6-5, 4-4 TSC) managed to do just enough in the first half, shooting just under 52% from the field and 57% from outside the arc.  The Night Hawks, on the other hand, were on the fuzzy end of the lollipop in Half 1, seeing 3-Pt. attempts bounce off the back iron and out and shooting under 40% from the field.

Despite TU's setback, Junior Guard Toriano Lewis went 4-for-9 long-range, tallying the most points for a Night Hawk (14).  Junior Guard Trint Bryant recorded 11 points and four boards, while Junior Guard Tim Williamson put up nine points and six boards on the night.

1st Half (CCGA 38, TU 25)
  • Thomas forced 11 turnovers in the half
  • TU notched six steals
  • The Mariners went on two different scoring runs: 7-0 early on and 8-0 in the waning moments of the half
  • Tim Williamson and Trint Bryant scored 7 points apiece

2nd Half (CCGA 66, TU 60)
  • Down by 13 with 11:30 remaining, Thomas ignited one its snipers in Toriano Lewis, who fired three good 3-Ptrs. in a span of 90 seconds en route to an 11-0 scoring run
  • Late in the half, Senior Forward Desean Enzor single-handedly went on a scoring run (7-1) to tie the game 58-58 with 2:25 remaining
  • The Hunter Green & White allowed just two made 3-Ptrs., limiting the Mariners' attack to 28.6% from the field and its long-range percentage to 18.2%
