THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's basketball team continues its road journey Tuesday evening, as the team heads to Lakeland, Fla., to face #16 Southeastern University in The Sun Conference action.
Thomas (1-7, 1-7 TSC) will attempt to shake off a heartbreaking 50-48 defeat to Warner University after nearly pulling off a late comeback surge down 14 points. Despite the result, TU limited WU to 26% outside the arc. Offensively, the Lady Night Hawks' shot just under 39% long-range, highlighted by Senior Guard
Alexis Powell's 4-for-8 performance beyond the arc. Senior Guard
Alisha Clayton has shown improvements in play; as of 2021, Clayton averages just under nine points a game, while averaging ten boards, four assists, and two steals.
#16 Southeastern (11-2, 9-0 TSC) has not lost in two months, and doesn't appear to be missing a beat. While the team has not played since Thursday (also against Warner), the Fire continue to lead TSC in Field Percentage, just shooting under 46% on average. In the team's last outing, the Fire boasted three different players putting up 18 points, shooting over 55% overall from the field, en route to its 84-61 win. Sophomore Hailey Howarth continues to lead SEU in points per game (13.69) while Rice transfer Gabrielle Ozoude leads the team in boards average (7.46).
In 2021, Thomas has allowed just under 38% of shots from the field, but the defense will be challenged by a Fire offense that averages 75.4 points a game. If the Lady Night Hawks wish to become just the third team since 2015 to defeat Southeastern at the Furnace, the team must limit the Fire's possessions.
TU's 3-Pt. game will be needed more than ever to produce points. Since the turn of the year, the Hunter Green & White have shot over 41% from outside the arc. SEU's 3-Pt. defense allows 30.2% of shots given up long range.
Tipoff at the Furnace is slated for 5:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action live with the links below:
