THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team lost, 3-2 and 9-7, to Talladega College (Ala.) Saturday at Varnedoe Stadium.
The Night Hawks (7-11) next face Albany State University (Ga.) on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.
Game One
Thomas plated one run in the first then added one in the second inning, but Talladega scored two in the third and one in the eighth to take the 3-2 victory.
Christian Sweat went 2-for-3,
Austin Reed tagged a triple and
Luis Martinez hit a double.
Thomas Sorrentino pitched the first 6.1 innings (5H, 2R, 1 ER, 3K, 1BB), then
Sammy Loveday was tagged with the loss after allowing a solo run from one hit in 1.2 innings.
Game Two
Thomas again took the early lead, scoring two in the bottom of the first inning. Talladega plated six in the third, then Thomas regained the lead after collecting three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. But Talladega wasn't done, tying the game in the sixth and adding two more in the seventh to earn the 9-7 win.
Randy Heller was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Martinez and
Rodwell Munoz each tagged a double.
Brad Toxen drew a pair of walks and Martinez was hit by two pitches.
Starter
Caleb Rogers pitched 2.1 innings, allowing six runs from six hits, giving way to
Clayton Faircloth (2.2IP, 1H, 2BB) and
Owen Simonds (1.0IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 1K).
Logan Hollyman allowed two runs, one earned, from two hits in 0.2 innings to take the loss.
