The Georgia Game: Lady Night Hawks Prepare for Coastal Georgia

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's basketball are back at home Saturday, hosting the Sun Conference's preseason runner-ups, the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners.

The Lady Night Hawks (0-1, 0-1 TSC) began its 2020-21 season Thursday night, but was unsuccessful in conquering the Warriors, falling 78-49.  TU will now have a chance to rebound at home, despite facing another TSC powerhouse.  Senior Guard Alexis Powell will look to build off her shooting performance, going 4-for-8 from the field.  Sophomore Guard Emiah Downie shot 3-for-7, while Senior Forward Destiny Reed shot 40%.  Despite scoring one point in the team's second period performance last time out, the Lady Night Hawks managed to find ways to capitalize on TSC's best Scoring Defense, scoring 35 total second-half points.

CCGA (3-2, 1-1 TSC) come to Thomasville, Ga. following a 79-54 loss to #7 Southeastern at home.  The Mariners are led by Sophomore Guard Kaliyah Little in the scoring category, averaging 14.2 points a game.  Little's mark is a sixth-best in TSC.  Senior Center Quira Potter will be a force to be reckoned with in the point, scoring 50% of the time from 38 season-total shots.

The Lady Night Hawks were able to subdue TSC's best 3-Pt Field Goal Percentage Offense (34%), limiting the Webber Warriors to 30% from long-range; can TU pull a repeat performance against the conference's next best 3-Pt Field Goal Percentage Offense (32.9) owned by CCGA?  The Mariners finished their last two of three contests converting 35% or better from long-range.

Tipoff at the TU Gymnasium is slated for 2 p.m.  Fans can catch the action online by clicking the link below:
