MOBILE, Ala. – The Thomas University men's soccer team fell to No. 21 Bethel University, 3-2 in double overtime, Friday evening in the Mobile Classic.
After Thomas took a 2-0 lead in the first half, No. 21 Bethel University finished a pair of goals in the second period to tie the match. After a scoreless first overtime, Bethel scored in the second minute of the second overtime to take the victory.
In the 14th minute,
Sam Eyes scored TU's first goal, off an assist from
Gavin Rochford-Smith. Then in the final minute of the period,
Salvador Marin gave TU the 2-0 lead.
Bethel cut the deficit in half at the 66th minute, then tied the match with 15 minutes left in regulation.
In the first overtime, TU was outshot 6-1, but held onto the 2-2 stalemate.
In the second extra period, Bethel kicked in a goal at 101:33 to earn the victory.
The Night Hawks return to the pitch Sunday at 1:30 p.m. to face Classic host University of Mobile, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll.
