GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Thomas University softball team dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Gulf Shores Invitational Tournament.
The Night Hawks lost, 7-2, to Williams Baptist College (Ark.), then fell, 6-5, to No. 12 Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) on Friday.
TU faces Louisiana State University Alexandria and No. 18 Central Methodist University (Mo.) on Saturday, then Avila University (Mo.) and RV Lyon College (Ark.) on Sunday.
Game One
Williams Baptist scored one in the first, then Thomas answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. After five scoreless innings, WBU plated six in the top of the seventh to take the 7-2 win.
Thomas connected on eight hits, led by a 3-for-3 performance from second baseman
Hannah Wilde, who also scored a run and stole a base. Shortstop
Holly Campbell tagged one hit and recorded one RBI while third baseman
Corryne Diaz tallied one hit and scored one run.
Starting pitcher
Rebecca Boesen struck out four while allowing seven runs - five earned – from six hits and two walks in 6.0 innings.
Emily Bowne came in for one inning of relief, giving up just one hit and walking one.
Game Two
No. 12 Freed-Hardeman scored two runs in the bottom of the second, then Thomas tied the game in the top of the fourth. TU added one in the fifth, but FHU again took the lead after plating two in the bottom of the fifth. Each team scored two in the sixth, and the Night Hawks were unable to score in the top of the seventh, falling 6-5.
First baseman
Michaela Farr was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI and shortstop
Holly Campbell tagged a pair of hits for TU.
Shealah Brown started the game, tossing 1.2 innings, allowing two runs from three hits and three walks.
Margarita Sena took the loss after throwing 3.2 innings of relief giving up four runs from two hits and three walks.
