MARIETTA, Ga. – Junior
Ivan Tomic netted 18 points in Thomas University's 80-71 loss to Life University (Ga.) Tuesday evening.
Tomic was 7-of-11 from the field and grabbed five rebounds against Life, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll.
TU led, 37-36 at the half, but was outscored 44-34 in the second period to take the loss.
The Night Hawks held the lead after a 3-pointer from
Daniel Merrius with 13:09 left in the game, but Life jumped out to a 7-point lead just three minutes later. TU tied the game at 64 with 4:26 to play, but Life hit nine free throws, a three and a pair of 2-pointers to take home the win.
Thomas made 21-of-24 (87.5%) shots at the line and knocked down 37.3 percent (22-59) from the field in the second game of the season.
Joshua Scott added 16 points, hitting all eight of his free throw attempts, and
Trint Bryant scored 10 for TU.
Quante Smith pulled down a team-high six rebounds and
Kadeem Webb had five steals.
The Night Hawks are back in action Nov. 8 against Middle Georgia State in Mount Vernon, Ga.
