MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Thomas University defeated Johnson & Wales University, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Miami Shores Recreation Field to earn the fifth seed in the Sun Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, which begins next weekend.
The Night Hawks host Johnson & Wales at the TU Soccer Complex Nov. 9 at noon in a quarterfinal match of The Sun Conference Tournament. The winner will face Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., on Tuesday, Nov. 12, then the Championship will be played Nov. 15.
On Saturday, Thomas outshot JWU 18-11 overall and 8-4 on goal in the Night Hawk victory.
With seconds remaining in the first period,
Myke Zamor assisted a goal by
Sam Eyes to give TU the 1-0 lead.
Then in the second half, Eyes finished his second goal of the match off assists from
Martin Grzywa and
Gavin Rochford-Smith.
Selwyn Slotegraff took three shots on goal, all of which were saved by JWU's keeper.
Ben Barnes made three saves in 90 minutes in goal.
