THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team defeated Warner University, 58-55, Thursday night at the TU Gymnasium for its second straight Sun Conference victory.
The Night Hawks also defeated Florida Memorial University, 82-76, Jan. 26. The last time TU won consecutive games was Dec. 6 at Webber International (70-60) and Dec. 8 at Warner University (80-66).
Micah Garvin recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead Thomas against Warner.
Jewel Montisano drained five of the team's seven 3-pointers on her way to 17 points, scoring at least 13 points in three of her last four outings.
Pkacia Johnson's six assists were a team high, and her fourth game with at least six handouts.
Thomas took a 14-10 first quarter lead, but trailed, 23-22, at the half. A 17-point third quarter put the Night Hawks ahead by seven heading into the final stanza. Warner outscored TU, 23-19, in the fourth, but the Night Hawks held on for the three-point victory.
With 2:46 left in the game, Warner knocked down a jumper to tie the game at 48. Back-to-back jumpers from Garvin gave Thomas the four-point lead, but Warner hit a layup to trail by two, 52-50, with 1:48 left. Montisano drained a three to put TU up by five at 1:35. Warner hit a layup and a trio of free throws in the final 46 seconds, but Thomas was a perfect 3-of-3 at the line to fend off the Royals.
Thomas wraps up the home slate Saturday with Senior Night beginning at 2 p.m. against Webber International.
