THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University junior
Joshua Scott scored 21 points to lead the Night Hawks to a 61-53 victory over College of Coastal Georgia Saturday at the TU Gymnasium.
Scott drained a trio of threes and went 8-of-12 from the field to lead TU.
Cedric Wright recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while
Quante Smith also pulled down 10 boards for the Night Hawks.
Thomas outrebounded Coastal Georgia, 41-37, and forced the Mariners into 18 turnovers.
Coastal Georgia jumped out to the early 6-0 lead, but Thomas battled back to tie the game at 11 with 12:30 left in the first. The Mariners answered with a trey, then Wright finished a layup and
Sheldon Hendrix threw down a dunk over the next 90 seconds to give TU the 15-14 lead. The Night Hawks then took off on a 22-10 run, and never trailed again in the game.
Scott was 5-of-5 from the field and hit both of his 3-point attempts to give TU the 37-24 first-half lead. The Night Hawks hit 50 percent (15-30) of their shots from the field, and were 4-of-9 from three in the first stanza.
The Night Hawks led by as many as 16 in the second period, but with 2:12 left in the game, Coastal Georgia hit a three to draw the score within four, 52-48. Scott responded with a trey and TU went on to win by eight.
Thomas next travels to South Florida to face Johnson & Wales University in North Miami Jan. 17, then Keiser University in West Palm Beach Jan. 19.
