THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team tied St. Thomas University, 1-1, Saturday afternoon to open Sun Conference action.
"I am very proud of the way the girls battled," said Coach
Julie Orlowski. "After an unfortunate PK early in the match, I thought we recovered and played well the remainder of the half."
Thomas is 1-3-2 overall, with losses only to ranked teams. STU, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, is 3-2-1.
St. Thomas scored on a penalty kick in the sixth minute to take the early 1-0 lead. Thomas tied the match on a goal from
Taylor Hults to
Cara Eaton with five minutes to play in regulation. Thomas took four corners in the two extra periods, but couldn't find the back of the net, ending the match in a tie.
Katy Hanscomb attempted a pair of shots on goal and
Anna Gray took three shots, with one on goal. Goalkeeper
Kara Houston made four saves and allowed one goal in 110 minutes.
"We made some adjustments at halftime and I thought we really dominated the second half," added Orlowski. "All of the pressure paid off with a free kick deep in their end. It was so good to see the team tie it up with five minutes to play. They earned that."
