Softball To Play in TSC Championship Game Saturday

CLERMONT, Fla. – The No. 14 Thomas University softball team defeated No. 21 Southeastern, 2-0, Friday to earn a spot in The Sun Conference Championship Game Saturday at 4 p.m. at PFX Athletics Legends Way Ballfields.

On Saturday at 4 p.m., TU will play its second game in three days against the University of South Carolina Beaufort after USCB defeated Southeastern in the loser's bracket Friday night. The Night Hawks beat the Sand Sharks, 6-1, on Thursday in the first round of the tournament. If necessary, the teams will square off a second time immediately following the first game.

TU is playing for the school's sixth overall Sun Conference Championship title in history. The ladies won the regular season championship this year, earning the top seed in the tournament. In 2016, the men's soccer team won the regular season championship and has also won a pair of TSC tournament championships in 2013 and 2014. Also in 2014, the men's golf team won the conference tournament.

On Friday, Thomas (37-13) scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the victory.

Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year Lauren West won her second-straight tournament game on the mound, striking out two while allowing four hits in 7.0 shutout innings.

Gaby Mora was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Night Hawks.

With one out in the first, Kait Stoltz and Mora hit back-to-back triples to plate the first TU run. Then with two outs, Mora scored on a passed ball.

In the fourth, Southeastern had three runners on base with two outs, but West forced a foul out to end the inning. SEU also left a pair of runners on the basepaths in the fifth inning.
