VALDOSTA, Ga. – Thomas University baseball ended the regular season with a 7-3 loss to NCAA Division II Valdosta State Wednesday afternoon at Billy Grant Field.
Thomas ends the regular season 28-24 overall and 9-15 in the Sun Conference.
Valdosta State scored two in the fifth, then Thomas cut the deficit in half in the top of the seventh. The Blazers answered with two more in the seventh, then Thomas added two in the eighth and VSU scored three more in the bottom of the frame to take the 7-3 victory.
Starter
Chance Carter pitched 5.0 innings, striking out three and allowing two runs from three hits to take the loss.
TU tagged five hits in the game, one a piece from
Landon Boyette,
Chase Hinson,
Justin Young,
Gavin Murphy and
Logan Place.
VSU scored two runs from two hits in the fifth.
In the seventh, Young reached on an error with one out, then stole second. Then with two outs, Murphy hit an RBI single to right field, driving in Young.
The Blazers drew a walk then a batter was hit by a pitch to start the seventh, in time for a two-RBI double to right center gave VSU the 4-1 lead.
Place drew a walk to lead off the eighth, then back-to-back singles by Boyette and Hinson plated Place.
Jalbert Melo was then hit by a pitch and
Trent Miller reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Boyette to score and draw the score to 4-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, VSU extended the lead to 7-3 with three runs from two hits.
TU now prepares for the Sun Conference Baseball Tournament held May 4-7 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
