TU Shuts out USC Beaufort

THOMASVILLE, Fla. – The Thomas University softball team shut out USC Beaufort in a pair of games Wednesday afternoon at Armory Field. 

Thomas, which is 30-10 overall and 14-4 in the Sun Conference, won the first game, 5-0, then defeated the Sand Sharks, 2-0, in game two. 

The Night Hawks host Webber International (Fla) on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. at Armory Field. 

Game One
TU scored one in each of the first three innings, then added two more in the fourth to win, 5-0.

Lauren West improved to 19-3 with the shutout victory, striking out seven while allowing just three hits in 7.0 innings. West faced just three batters in four of seven innings. Kelsey Connolly was 2-for-3 with a home run, Kait Stoltz also had a pair of hits, including a triple, and Michael Cooper tagged a double. 

Victoria Camina led off the first by drawing a walk, then stole second base. Stoltz singled then Gaby Mora put down a sac bunt to move the runners to second and third. Connolly connected on a base hit to the shortstop, plating Camina. 

An inning later, Cooper doubled down the left field line, advanced to third on a sa bunt by Izzy Ekstam, then scored as Shelby Stephens grounded out to the shortstop. 

With two outs in the third, Connolly hit a solo home run, her eighth HR of the season. 

In the fourth, Ekstam and Stephens drew back-to-back one-out walks, then Corryne Diaz hit an RBI single to right field and Stoltz tripled to center, scoring TU's final run. 

Game Two
After five scoreless innings, Thomas scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 2-0 victory. 

Katie Lopes won her second game of the season, allowing just six hits and striking out two in 6.0 innings. West picked up the save, facing just three batters. 

A.J. Weiss, Stoltz, Diaz and Connolly each had a hit in the game. 

Camina drew a walk to lead off the sixth, then Stoltz put down a bunt for a base hit. Mora had a sac bunt, which advanced both runners, so Connolly was intentionally walked to load the bases. Weiss then hit a two-RBI single to right field to secure the win for TU.
