Thomas Takes Two from No. 14 Reinhardt

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University improved to 14-3 after a pair of victories over No. 14 Reinhardt (Ga.) Tuesday afternoon at Armory Field. The Night Hawks came from behind in both games, winning 7-5 and 7-6. 

The Night Hawks are back in action this weekend at the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Thomas opens play March 9 with a 3:30 p.m. game against No. 5 Brenau (Ga.), then has a 6 p.m. matchup against No. 8 William Carey (Miss.) at the South Commons Softball Complex. 


Game One
Thomas scored seven runs from six hits to take the 7-5 victory in game one. Reinhardt took the early 4-0 lead after two innings, then Thomas tied the game in the fourth. RU added one more in the fifth, but three runs in the bottom of the frame led Thomas to victory. 

Michael Cooper was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and Gaby Mora tagged a double for the Night Hawks. 

Lauren West earned her fifth win in eight days, striking out two, but walking three and allowing five runs on 12 hits. The Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week is now 7-1 this season with a 1.7 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 53.0 innings. 

RU scored two runs from three hits and one TU error in the first, then added two more in the second inning. 

In the fourth, Thomas' first six batters reached base and pushed three runs across the plate as Mora doubled, Kelsey Connolly walked, A.J. Weiss and Cooper (RBI) had base hits and Izzy Ekstam and Taisa Kirindongo each walked. With two outs, Kait Stoltz reached on an error, allowing Ekstam to score. 

Reinhardt's one run in the fifth came from a solo home run, then Thomas scored three runs from two hits and two RU errors in the bottom of the frame.

Mora reached on an error, then A.J. Weiss walked before Cooper rocketed a three-run homer. 

Game Two
Reinhardt again scored first, recording two in the first, but Thomas matched with a pair in the bottom of the frame. RU added one in the third, Thomas again matched in the fourth, then the Eagles scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the 6-3 lead. Thomas scored four in the sixth to earn the 7-6 victory. 

Connolly was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and Mora was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Margarita Sena earned the complete-game victory, striking out one and allowing six runs from 11 hits.  

RU had three hits in the first inning, scoring two runs. 

With one out in the first, Stoltz was hit by a pitch, then stole second. Mora doubled, plating Stoltz, then stole third and scored on an Eagles error. 

Three singles led to one run for RU in the third, before TU turned a double play to end the inning. 

Aly Bala hit a one-out single in the fourth, then Olivia Garcia came in to pinch run. With two outs, Garcia stole second, then scored on a single by Stoltz. 

Another TU error led to RU scoring one unearned run in the fifth, then RU scored two runs from four hits in the sixth. 

Thomas staged a two-out rally in the sixth, led by a base hit from Camina. Stoltz then reached on an error and a single from Mora plated Camina. Connolly then blasted a three-run homer.
