Thomas Completes Three-Game Sweep of SHU

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team defeated Siena Heights, 11-3, Sunday afternoon at Varnedoe Stadium to complete the three-game sweep of the Saints.

Thomas started strong, scoring five runs in the first inning, and after SHU plated one in the top of the fourth, TU added four more in the bottom of the frame to take the 9-1 lead. The Saints added one in the seventh, and Thomas answered again with two more in the bottom of the seventh. SHU ended the game with one more in the top of the ninth.

Taylor Westbrook went 3-for-4 while Levi Hollingsworth had a pair of extra-base hits with a home run and a double, and four RBI. Keefer Beaty also had a pair of hits in the game. Daniel Williams earned the win on the mound, striking out six and allowing just one run from seven hits in 5.0 innings pitched.

Five hits plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning for the Night Hawks. Beaty and Murphy hit consecutive singles, then with one out, Justin Young walked to load the bases. Westbrook's single plated Beaty, then a double by Hollingworth added two more. Landon Boyette's base hit plated Westbrook for TU's fourth run. After a walk dealt to Jake Webb, Trent Miller reached on a fielder's choice and Hollingsworth crossed the plate.

A double and consecutive two-out singles allowed one Saint to score in the top of the fourth, then Thomas connected on four hits for four more runs in the bottom of the frame.

Miller and Beaty hit singles, then Murphy loaded the bases by drawing a walk. A double by Jalbert Melo cleared the bases. Then Young reached on an error and Melo scampered home.

SHU scored one in the top of the seventh after a HBP, walk, strikeout and base hit.

Hollingsworth homered in the bottom of the seventh, plating Westbrook, who had reached on a base hit.

SHU ended the scoring with a one-out solo home run in the top of the ninth.

Thomas next takes the field on Feb. 6 against Albany State at 4 p.m. at Varnedoe Stadium.
