THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University men's basketball downed Southeastern (Fla.), 62-58, Saturday night at TU Gymnasium. Southeastern is receiving votes in this week's NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.Â
Thomas improves to 14-11 overall and 9-8 in the league while Southeastern falls to 17-7, 9-6.Â
JaVoris Cooks netted 16 points, including 8-of-8 at the line, while
Johnnel Ginnie tallied 13 points and nine rebounds for the Night Hawks.
Katrell Myers added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench.Â
SEU led by as many as six points in the first 12 minutes of the game, but a layup by Myers tied the game at 18 with 7:50 to play in the first stanza. SEU hit a free throw to go ahead 19-18 with 5:06 remaining in the first, but a 3-pointer from DJ Roulhac at 4:18 put Thomas ahead for the remainder of the half.Â
In the second period, TU led the first eight minutes, but SEU chipped away and regained the 40-39 lead. After three lead changes, Thomas went ahead for good, 54-53 with 3:14 remaining.Â
Thomas was 6-for-6 at the line in the final four minutes to earn the victory. Thomas knocked down 23-of-27 (85.2%) of its free throws in the game.Â
TU wraps up the regular season on Feb. 17 against Coastal Georgia. Tip is at 4 p.m. in the TU Gymnasium.Â
