THOMASVILLE, Ga. –
Katrell Myers netted 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Thomas University's 63-55 win over Coastal Georgia Saturday afternoon at TU Gymnasium.
The Night Hawk men will host as either a third or fourth seed on Thursday at 7 p.m., depending on tonight's Southeastern vs. St. Thomas game. If SEU wins, Thomas will be the 4-seed hosting Warner. If St. Thomas wins, TU will be the 3-seed hosting Coastal Georgia.
Myers was 7-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-5 from distance, and hit one free throw. Javoris Cooks added 16 points, going 6-of-10 with a pair of threes and two free throws.
Johnnel Ginnie grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.
Thomas ended the regular season 15-11 overall and 10-8 in the league, while Coastal Georgia dropped to 16-12, 8-10.
Halfway through the first period, TU led 16-5, then cruised on to a 33-24 lead at the half. Coastal Georgia cut the margin to four just three minutes into the second stanza, but seven unanswered points extended TU's lead back to 11 with 15:00 to play. CCG trailed by just three with four minutes left, but a 3-pointer by
D.J. Roulhac and a pair of free throws from Cooks put the game out of reach.
TU held Coastal Georgia to 27.3 percent (6-22) from long range and 33.3 percent (23-69) overall. The Night Hawks outrebounded the Mariners, 50-38, and TU's bench outscored CCG, 30-9.
