LAKE WALES, Fla. – Thomas University fell, 80-73, to Warner University Saturday afternoon, despite 23 points from
Joshua Scott.
Scott, who scored 17 of his 23 in the second period, added six rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Night Hawks, which fall to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the Sun Conference. Warner, which is receiving votes in the national poll, improved to 8-4, 4-1.
Brandon Kostyk and
Sheldon Hendrix each drained a trio of treys for the Night Hawks, scoring 11 and 14 points, respectively.
Warner led by 10 with five minutes remaining in the first, but Thomas cut the margin to six at the half.
In the second period, Hendrix knocked down a three at 15:43 to tie the game at 44. Warner held the lead the remainder of the half, although Thomas drew the margin within two, 73-75, with 29 seconds left in regulation, as Scott hit a pair of free throws. Warner answered with a jumper and made its final three free throws to earn the 80-73 win.
The Night Hawks next face Point University Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. in West Point, Ga.
