THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The third-seeded Thomas University women's soccer team fell, 1-0 in overtime, to the sixth-seeded University of South Carolina Beaufort Saturday afternoon in the Sun Conference Championship quarterfinals at the TU Soccer Complex.
"It is devastating to dominate a match in every facet of the game, only to lose in overtime," said Head Coach
Julie Orlowski. "Our seniors deserved better, they earned better, than the result today."
Thomas outshot USCB 19-6 overall and 14-3 on goal for the match.
Individually, senior
Katy Hanscomb attempted five shots on goal while senior
Anna Gray and freshman
Selma Brorsson each had three.
"In the end, we had our chances. If we score one, we score five. We only made their goalkeeper make one tough save. The others were right at her or just off frame," added Orlowski. "It's cliche, but that's why we play the game. They were able to put one in the net and we weren't."
The teams traded shots for the first 14 minutes of the match, then Thomas went on the attack, outshooting USCB 7-2 over the rest of the first period.
The Night Hawks defense held the Sand Sharks without a shot attempt in the second half, while TU attempted nine, four of which were in the final 10 minutes.
In overtime, Brorsson's shot in the first minute was saved, then TU couldn't convert its corner kick in the 93rd minute. The Sand Sharks' shot in the 95th minute was blocked, then USCB scored at 95:23 to win the match.
The Night Hawks end the season 7-7-2 overall with a 6-3-1 mark in the league.
