MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Four Thomas University men's basketball student-athletes scored in double-digits Thursday to defeat Florida Memorial University, 79-73.
Brandon Kostyk led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 7-of-10 from long range, including 4-of-4 in the second half.
Dexter Hood added 18 points while dishing out four assists, and
Joshua Scott netted 16 points while swiping three steals.
Marcus Louis added 10 points and eight rebounds for TU.
The Night Hawks, who hit 45 percent (27-60) from the field and 44.4 percent (8-18) from distance, are 5-2 overall and 3-0 in Sun Conference action this season.
The Lions led, 42-36, at the half, but Thomas mounted a 43-31 comeback in the second period to stay undefeated in league action.
Thomas took the 6-0 lead and held a 10-point margin at the 16 minute mark of the first half. With seven minutes left in the first, FMU hit a three to trail by one, but Kostyk drained a three and Hood finished a fastbreak layup to put TU back up by six. With two minutes left, FMU tied the game at 35, then took the 42-36 lead going into the locker room.
After two scoreless minutes to open the second stanza, Kostyk netted back-to-back treys, and
Sean Kostyk also hit a three to give Thomas a one-point lead at 14:53. The Night Hawks never trailed again, leading by as many as nine.
The Night Hawks next face St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Saturday at 4 p.m.
