SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Thomas University men's basketball team lost, 111-107, Thursday night at Savannah State University in Tiger Arena.
SSU is an NCAA Division I member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Thomas outscored the Tigers 61-55 in the second half, but TU couldn't overcome the 10-point halftime deficit, falling 111-107.
Sophomore
Brandon Kostyk netted 30 points, knocking down 10-of-16 from long range, while junior
Joshua Scott added a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Night Hawks. Junior
Ivan Tomic scored 19 points and pulled down seven boards and junior
Dexter Hood dished out six assists with 11 points and six rebounds.
With two minutes left in the game, Kostyk drained a 3-pointer to bring the game within two, but SSU hit a layup with one minute left to go ahead by four. Then Scott answered with a trey, but SSU hit 3-of-4 from the line over the final 25 seconds to earn the 4-point victory.
The Night Hawks hit 48.1 percent (39-81) from the field and 44.1 percent (15-34) from distance while holding the Tigers to 36.4 percent (36-99) from the field and 29.5 percent (23-78) from three. TU outrebounded SSU 64-49, but turned the ball over 29 times to Savannah State's 11.
Thomas next faces Brewton-Parker College on Nov. 5 in Mount Vernon, Ga.
