TU Victorious on Senior Day

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University men's soccer team defeated Johnson & Wales University, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.

Prior to the match, Thomas honored its four seniors: Josh Barrett, Lee Howarth, Luis Padilla and Aron Wimberly

Thomas returns to the top of the Sun Conference standings with its 5-1-1 league record. Warner (5-2-1) and No. 24 Southeastern (5-1) also have five victories in TSC action.

After JWU scored in the 19th minute, Thomas tied the match just after the halftime break, then added two more unanswered goals to earn the 3-1 win.

Salvador Marin scored a pair of goals for Thomas, taking six shots, three of which were on goal. Marin is the third Night Hawk to net multiple goals in a match this season, along with Gavin Rochford-Smith (Sept. 7 vs. Dalton State) and Y'sef Glass (Sept. 22 vs. Ave Maria).

JWU scored the first goal of the match at 18:59, before Thomas could even get off a shot. The Night Hawks then turned the tables, attempting four shots in the final 20 minutes of the period.

Thomas came out attacking after the half, as Glass attempted a shot in the first two minutes, then assisted Marin on his first goal at 47:01.

Marin sent a shot high in the 51st minute, then scored his second goal, off an assist from Mark Lescher, at 55:53.

After a pair of errant shot attempts by JWU, Diego Azar assisted Rochford-Smith on the final goal of the match at 77:23. The Wildcats took three shots in the final five minutes, one sailed high, the next was blocked, and the final attempt at 89:39 was saved by TU goalkeeper Ben Barnes

The Night Hawks return to the TU Soccer Complex for the final time this regular season on Oct. 24 to face No. 24 Southeastern (Fla.) at 3 p.m.
