LAKELAND, Fla. - No. 3 Southeastern (Fla.) defeated Thomas, 62-38, on Thursday evening in Sun Conference (TSC) action. The Fire won their 41st-straight regular-season contest and 24th-consecutive league game, with the last loss coming to the Night Hawks, 70-64, inside TU Gymnasium on Feb. 10, 2016.
"We forced 20 turnovers and limited them from the 3-point line but struggled to score the ball," Green and White coach
Myron Brown said. "We've played a tough stretch of opponents in recent weeks but still have to find ways to be fluid offensively."
Ana Richter finished with 28 points for Southeastern (15-0, 6-0 TSC) on 12-of-19 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and nine steals. Jaycee Coe added 17 points. Halee Printz dished out seven assists, as the Fire totaled 19 on 26 made baskets.
Arianna Anderson ended with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting for Thomas, (5-7, 2-5 TSC), playing its third-straight ranked team.
Dymon Brown added 12 points, including three made 3s.
De'Audra Copeland had six points and eight rebounds.
Kriza Allen grabbed six boards.Â
The Fire shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59) from the field but just 4-of-20 from deep and 6-of-15 from the free throw line.
The Night Hawks outrebounded Southeastern, 43-34.
Thomas jumped out to a five-point lead less than three minutes into the game after a D. Brown trey and Anderson bucket in the paint, but the Fire scored the final 14 points and led by nine at the end of the first quarter.
Coe connected on a bucket from distance at the 6:12 mark of the second period to give her team its first double-digit advantage, and the Fire led 31-12 at halftime.
Thomas outscored the home team 13-8 in the third quarter, with the final four Night Hawk points coming from Copeland, to trim the deficit to 39-25, but the Green and White would get no closer.
The Night Hawks continue TSC play at Ave Maria (Fla.), which is receiving votes in the latest Top 25 poll, on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
